Farmers' uprising

Tuesday, 30 July 2024
On 1 April 2024 the vehicle recovery work in the NH132 (Amsterdam-West) IM district was taken over by two vehicle recovery companies from outside Amsterdam: ABC and Hoogwout Berging. ABC is a subsidiary of Hooikammer Autoberging in Staphorst. Hoogwout Berging is based in Oostzaan and Purmerend. In the district in question, this pair recorded an average response time of 6.23 minutes. That means that they were among the quickest recovery operators in the country.

In the second quarter of 2024, very good response times were achieved throughout the country. The average time for 42,326 recoveries amounted to 10.05 minutes. Quicker response times have only ever been achieved in the fourth quarter of 2020 (9.55 minutes) and the first quarter of 2021 (10.02 minutes), although the workload was more than 40% lower in those quarters: 23,624 and 25,689 recoveries respectively.

The quickest recovery operators in the country were the companies that serve the primary roads in and around the three largest cities: Takel-, Berging- en Transportbedrijf A. Barendregt in Rhoon, Bergnet in Amsterdam and Vreugdenhil Berging in Rijswijk. Schoenmaker in Avenhorn was, as usual, the recovery operator that clocked a response time of less than twenty minutes for all recovery callouts, in the largest geographical area. A stand-out performance was recorded by Autax in Ommen. Autax serves two 'quiet' districts in the north-east corner of Overijssel. In the second quarter, Autax was the quickest recovery operator outside the Randstad area.

The second quarter was the last one in which Stichting IMN was able to call on VOF VaRaMo in Breskens. This garage, breakdown assistance provider and recovery operator patrolled a 10-kilometre stretch of the N61 in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen (district Z288). It was the smallest IM recovery operator in the country. VaRaMo carried out 23 IM recovery operations last year, precisely one fewer than Autohulpdienst Hazenberg in Vries (Drenthe). The company had difficulty finding personnel that was prepared to be on stand-by round the clock and, as a result, decided to discontinue recovery operations from 1 July 2024. The company can now focus its attention on its garage operations. IM operations in district Z288 have been transferred to Berging Centrale Zeeland.
