The A4 dominated the 2025 ranking of road sections with a high number of incidents. For four years, the northern approach to the Coentunnel was the most dangerous stretch of asphalt in the Netherlands (A10 Li 33.0 - 33.9). In 2025, however, both first and second place on the list were taken by the motorway between Amsterdam and The Hague. The top position was held by the exit of the sunken carriageway at Leiderdorp in the direction of The Hague (A4 Re 33.0 - 33.9). There, Incident Management recovery operators handled 57 incidents. Close behind, with 55 incidents, was a section of road north of the Prins Clausplein interchange in the direction of Leiden (A4 Li 44.0 - 44.9).

It is not clear why the A4 recorded more incidents in many locations than in 2024. Why the sections near Leiderdorp and the Clausplein ranked highest is less of a mystery. Both sections are marked by a reduction in carriageway width from three to two lanes. In both cases, the majority of incidents occurred within the first three hundred metres after the traffic sign announcing this lane reduction. At Leiderdorp, 30 of the 57 collisions occurred between kilometre markers 33.4 and 33.6. At the Clausplein, 28 of the 55 incidents were recorded between markers 44.0 and 44.2. Merging is difficult.

Since the opening of this stretch in 2014, the right-hand lane of the A4 near Leiderdorp has consistently ranked among the road sections with the highest number of incidents. This kilometre section was also number one in 2018 and has been in the top three for each of the past three years. The section near the Clausplein had been less prominent until now. In 2025, however, the entire left-hand carriageway of the A4 between Den Hoorn and the Vlietlanden became more hazardous. The three five-kilometre sections that make up this route all appear in the top ten of stretches with the highest number of incidents per five kilometres. In 2024, none of these sections featured in that ranking.
