Small but sweet

Friday 28 April 2017
Small recovery companies are the eye-catchers on the IM network that went into action on 1 April 2016. This is reflected by an analysis of the arrival times achieved by IM recovery operators in the final three quarters of last year. The investigation focused on those companies that succeeded in operating well above the standard, without interruption, on the largest section of IM roads. BCF in Friesland and Takel- en Bergingsbedrijf Poort in Groningen came out as frontrunners. These companies managed to achieve their performance on an IM road section with a total length of 162 and 144 kilometres, respectively.

Of the six largest IM operators, who together are responsible for 55% of the IM network, only two appeared in the list of leading operators. Takel-, Berging- en Transportbedrijf A. Barendregt delivered exceptional performance in the southern Rijnmond district, on IM roads with a total length of 140 kilometres. Barendregt operates in a busy area, and of all the excellent recovery operators, was responsible for most recovery operations. Wolves Berging stood out on its 114-kilometre section of road, delivering excellent performance above all in Zuid-Limburg.

Two new faces have joined the excellent recovery operators in 2016. Autoberging De Haan was a newcomer on the A12 near Zoetermeer. In a period of six months, in two districts, De Haan received five honourable mentions. ASG Lichtenvoorde, the second newcomer, was also responsible for IM work during the previous contract period, but in that period achieved no honourable mentions. All other operators on the list have been outstanding for years. Automobielbedrijf Schoenmaker en Zonen from Avenhorn deserves a special mention. This company is the IM recovery operator on 78 kilometres of road. Schoenmaker was deployed on 319 occasions, and arrived on time on all 319 occasions, a performance that reflects unmatched dedication to the profession.

Systematically achieving good arrival times can often be better organised in busy areas than in districts with little work. It is after all not easy to operate a regular 24-hour service in an area in which nothing happens, sometimes for hours on end. For this reason, the decision has been taken to measure the performance of the recovery companies according to the size of the network on which they operate, and not the number of recoveries undertaken. In determining the length of the section of road network in each district, separate carriageways on motorways have been counted as separate road sections.
